One of the greatest things about the US is the potential for equality.

The US legal system – both the constitution (which broadly sets rights) and the the laws – has been moving to embrace equality and create a level playing field. While many Americans will tell you reality hasn’t actually met in all cases the theory a lot of progress has been made.

A good opportunity for international companies.

Because of the commitment to equality the US market is largely open – both for those living in the US and those coming into the market.

While you will see some protections in some industries for those that have already made it (this is US politics at its best) most industries are wide open.

This means you can build a business in the US more easily than most parts of the world.

For the most part Americans and the American legal system don’t care much about your background – they care whether you and provide results.

So bring your “A-Game”

“Bring Your A-Game” is one of the phrases you’ll sometimes hear in the US (if you haven’t figured it out yet the Americans have a lot of phrases – or colloquialisms – they use to convey abstract concepts in few words). What this really means is you need to be ready to compete – and win – in this ultra-tough market. With your background off the table and equality what matters is what you can deliver. You’ll need to beat your competition.

This can sound scary and daunting but it’s really not. You just need to be the clear choice over your competitors. When you do that you’ll see growth and that openness will really help you.

So stop worrying about your background and history. Start worrying about how you can add value to the market.

Get the right allies, get the right plan and you have a great chance of doing amazing things in this market (McBride For Business offers services in this area – call us).

What next?

If you want to compete and win in the US you should get our Doing Business in the US Course. With that strong background you can go far.

Let the fun begin (ending on a common American colloquialism).
