It may seem like a silly question. But here it is “Do You Speak American?”
Many people will think I am crazy because, of course, the language of the United States is English (among others).
And there is no “American” language.
But there is…
While there officially may be no American language we Americans do have our own culture built into our language. Even when you download software it now (often) has an option for American English.
And we say things are way. Most of the things we are are little phrases that have special meanings – cultural meanings – built into them.
For instance I might say “stop beating around the bush” and a non-American might be confused. But someone that knows the language will tell you it means “get to point” – typically said as part of a conversation.
American English is full of these items. I try to be careful to remove as many of these as I can as I blog to you about Doing Business in the US. But I am sure some slip through.
So I will be writing about some of these phrases as part of the blog – to help you get more familiar with Doing Business in the US.
